Anglo has its sights set on Kusile power station
Charl Oberholzer

Anglo American has indicated that it may invest in Eskom’s new Kusile coal power station near Delmas. Anglo is looking for ways to supply its own electricity and the Kusile power station could fulfill this purpose.

Earlier this year, Eskom made proposals to the South African Energy Regulator (Nersa), which include the possibility of selling approximately 39% or 49% of the Kusile power station to investors. This prospect was one of the main reasons why Eskom decided to adjust the proposed tariff increase from 45% to 35%.
