There are two types of membership*:

One is for collective members (persons employed in large companies where Solidarity already has a collective agreement, or in companies that are serviced in a group context and are deemed to be collective by Solidarity). Membership dues for collective members are R 75 monthly and are deducted from the member’s salary.

The second membership type is for individual members who are employed in companies where Solidarity does not have a recognition agreement and where members are not services in a group context. These members pay R 77 per month and the dues are recovered from the member’s bank account by debit order.

The on-line application form that may be completed on this web page applies to individual members (debit order members) only.

* Persons over the age of 50 years who join the trade union and are not employed in a collective company (meaning a company with which Solidarity has an agreement of recognition, or in which organisational rights have been granted to Solidarity, or a company regarded by Solidarity as "collective") do not qualify for the permanent disability benefit or the funeral benefit. In other words, persons older than 50 who join the trade union as individual members are not eligible for the aforementioned benefits.

* Membership cancellation

Cancellation of Solidarity membership is subject to 30 days’ written notice, to be sent directly to the trade union.

A person employed in a large company in which Solidarity already has an agreement with the employer can join by contacting Solidarity’s service centre at 0861-25-24-23 or by visiting the nearest Solidarity service office.

Any person (either collective or individual) wishing to join may also print out and complete the application form underneath (presented in pdf format) and then fax it to the Solidarity head office at (011) 388 2520.
